How to Store Slime So It Lasts

Good storage is the easiest way to keep slime soft, stretchy and clean. These are the same tips that come on the care sheet in every Squeezy Magic Slime order.

Always close the lid

Put your slime back in its jar as soon as you've finished playing, and make sure the lid is closed securely. Slime that's left open to the air starts to dry out and stiffen, and it can pick up dust and fluff. A tight lid keeps the texture just as it was.

Keep it cool and out of the sun

Store the jar somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight. Heat makes slime softer and stickier, and in a hot room it can start to melt. A shelf or drawer away from windows and heaters is ideal.

Use the fridge in hot weather

In summer, or if your home is warm, keeping slime in the fridge can help stop it melting. Cold slime will feel firmer when you take it out, so give it a few minutes of play to warm up in your hands before you stretch it. Don't use activator spray on cold slime, because it makes it too hard and it can tear.

Keep it clean

  • Wash your hands before and after playing, so dirt doesn't end up inside the slime.
  • Play only on clean, flat surfaces. Wooden and textured surfaces can stick to the slime.
  • Keep charms, toppers and small parts in the jar, and store slime out of reach of children under 3.

If stored slime changes

  • Sticky after storage? Add one spray of activator, mix it in well inside the jar, and repeat only if needed.
  • Stiff or firm? Warm it up by playing with it, or massage in a small amount of glycerin or warm water.

Quick answers

Should I keep slime in the fridge?

It's optional. In hot weather the fridge can help stop slime melting. Let it warm up in your hands before playing.

Can I store slime in a plastic bag?

The jar it came in, with the lid closed tightly, is best. It's what keeps the texture right and stops the slime picking up dirt.

Why did my slime get sticky in storage?

Warmth is the usual cause. Move it somewhere cooler, then fix the stickiness with one spray of activator at a time.
