Best Slime for Beginners

If you're new to slime, or buying for someone who is, the texture you start with makes a big difference. Here's how our shop's texture levels work and which slimes to pick first.

The three texture levels

For its Mystery Slime, our shop sorts textures into three levels, and they make a useful guide for everyone:

  • Beginner: non-sticky textures such as cloud creme. Thick, soft and easy to handle.
  • Intermediate: butter slimes. Smooth, spreadable and stretchy, a little softer than cloud creme.
  • Expert: clear slimes. Glassy and very stretchy, but the stickiest to get started with.

Start here: cloud creme

Cloud creme is thick, soft and non-sticky, and it holds its shape when you scoop it. That makes it the easiest slime to enjoy straight out of the jar, with the least chance of sticky fingers. Try Unicorn Whip (bubblegum scent), De-Stress Dough (lavender) or Coconut Frosting (coconut).

Next step: butter and cloud slime

Once you're comfortable, butter slime is the natural next step: it stretches without tearing and is lovely to spread and swirl. Strawberry Milk, Mango Smoothie and Blueberry Swirl are good choices. Cloud slimes such as Cotton Candy Delight and Melon Freeze are fluffy and fun too, with a soft, snowy feel.

When you're ready: clear and crunchy slime

Clear slime, and the crunchy and jelly cube slimes that use a clear base, are the most satisfying for many slime fans, but they're also the stickiest. Keep the included activator spray handy and use it one spray at a time. Crystal Clear is the purest clear slime; Frozen Blue Slush and Watermelon Squish add crunch and pop.

Not sure? Try a few at once

The 6-Pack Textured Slime Bundle includes six textures (jelly cube, bingsu, butter, cloud creme, clear and floam) so you can find a favourite. Choosing 2oz jars keeps it small and affordable. Or pick a Mystery Slime at the Beginner level and let the shop choose for you.

Before you play

  • Slime is not edible, so do not eat it. Our slime is for ages 3 and up and may contain small parts that can be a choking hazard.
  • Wash your hands before and after playing, and play on a clean, flat surface.
  • Every slime comes with a slime activator spray and a care sheet.
