How to Fix Sticky Slime (and Make Slime Less Sticky)

Sticky slime is the most common slime problem, and it's usually easy to fix. Here's how to bring it back to a smooth, stretchy, hands-free texture.

Why slime gets sticky

Slime is a balance between its base and its activator. When that balance shifts, it starts clinging to your fingers. The two most common reasons are warmth and travel: slime can get sticky during shipping or in a warm room, and that's completely normal. Clear slimes, glossy slimes and icee slimes tend to feel stickier than cloud creme or cloud slimes, especially when they first arrive.

Hand sanitizer is another cause. If you've just used it, it can make the slime sticky, so wash your hands with soap and water before you play instead.

Fix it with activator spray

Every Squeezy Magic Slime comes with a small slime activator spray for exactly this. Use it inside the jar, before you take the slime out to play:

  1. Start with just one spray onto the slime.
  2. Mix it in really well, folding the slime over itself inside the container.
  3. Still sticky? Add one more spray and mix again.
  4. Repeat only until the slime stops sticking to your fingers.

The key is patience. One spray at a time, mixed in thoroughly, gives the best result. Adding a lot at once can make slime stiff and rubbery, and it may start to tear.

Don't spray cold or stiff slime

If your slime feels cold, firm or rips when you pull it, it isn't sticky, it's stiff, and activator will make that worse. Warm it up by playing with it for a few minutes instead; the heat of your hands softens it. See our guide on fixing hard or stiff slime for more.

Stop it getting sticky again

  • Wash your hands before and after playing, and avoid hand sanitizer while handling slime.
  • Test your slime in the container first, and add activator there before taking it out.
  • Keep the lid securely closed so the slime keeps its texture.
  • Store slime somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight. Keeping it in the fridge can help stop it melting in hot weather.

Need more activator?

If you're buying several slimes, for gifts or for a group of kids, the Slime Activator Spray 3-Pack gives you extra sprays. The shop recommends one activator spray per slime.

Quick answers

How many sprays of activator should I use?

Start with one. Mix it in well, then add one more only if the slime is still sticky. Most slimes need very little.

My slime arrived sticky. Is something wrong?

No. Slime can get sticky during shipping, especially in warm weather. A spray or two of the included activator usually fixes it.

Which slimes are least sticky?

Cloud creme is our non-sticky, beginner texture. Clear slimes are the stickiest to start with.
